I first met Sarah & Kevin at the Wedding Ring Expo back in January of 2018. I remember meeting them, and despite how crazy and busy those shows are, I remembered speaking with them and feeling like we had an instant connection. You know, the kind where it feels like you’ve been friends your whole lives but really you just met? Yep, that’s them. Their engagement session was pure fun, and I just knew that their wedding would be even better!
First, a little backstory: Sarah & Kevin have known each other since Grade SEVEN. They only started dating in college though, when Kevin very bluntly asked Sarah to be his girlfriend while sitting in his dad’s junky old van.
He assures me he fixed this character flaw for the proposal.
Almost two years ago now they bought their very first house together, and Sarah & Kevin were excited to move in. What Sarah didn’t know though, was that Kevin was already at work scheming a beautiful proposal in their new home, clearly to make up for his gaffe from times gone past (see above if you need the refresher). A huge romantic at heart, Kevin had laid out four dozen roses (that he hand plucked), candlelight, and a beautiful ring at the end of it all. It was heart melting.
Fast forward through all the crazy wedding planning days, and we get to their wedding (finally!). To say I’ve been looking forward to this day for quite some time is an understatement! After spending time getting ready, we met up at Grey Silo for a first look. Kevin says that one of his very favourite moments of the day was just prior to the first look when he could hear Sarah walking up behind him, but the anticipation was killing him! How cute is that?
The day passed by in a blur. There were many, many tears shed. Beautiful ceremony conducted by Jeff from Enduring Promises that left everyone teary eyed and smiling. Speeches from family and friends, and even a song performed by Sarah’s nephew. It had everything – laughter, fun, and emotion all wrapped into one. The venue was decorated beautifully by Servers with a Smile and made the perfect ambience for their guests.
One of my very favourite memories from this day was watching the two of them sing to each other during their first dance (The One, by Kodaline, in case you’re curious), and also watching them read their cards that they gave to each other prior to the reveal.
After cutting their beautiful cake from Refined Sugar Cakes & Sweets, Kevin & Sarah finished off their evening by changing into their wedding Oktoberfest attire and surprising their guests with a polka! From there Loops N Jamzz DJ‘s had the dance floor packed with a mix of pop, country, and folk music.
It’s quite an honour, and a also position of trust, every time that I photograph a wedding. I take something away from it every time, and in cases like this one, the memories of the day stay with me long after the day has ended and the gallery has been delivered. I am so happy that I had the privilege of meeting you both, and your wedding was one I will remember for a long time! Congratulations to you both as you start this next chapter of your lives.
P.S. This blog is long. So long. BUT! It walks right through the whole day, and to me, that’s so important to portray to you. Enjoy!
